It would depend a lot on metabolism and dosage. The effectiveness wears off after 8 hours but traces of the drug stay in your system until they are flushed out, mostly through urine. SO, how long they star there depends on body mass/dosage ratio, kidney function and hydration level and even diet.
So, yes it is possible.

My girlfriend takes Ambien, and there are many negetive side effects. She doesn’t remember anything at all 20 minutes after taking it. She now cannot sleep at all without it. She gets headaches.
Does anybody have experience with a different option that doesn’t have the same side effects? example: Lunesta?

Man those drugs are over rated. Many good doctors should know that. Many people just don’t get out enough. What I mean by that is exposure just being outside. Studies have shown that people who make it a point to get out and get active during day light hours, actually sleep very well. We are not nocturnal. When it’s dark out, we sleep. It’s that simple. Drag her to the doctors office for good counseling if necessary. See a psychiatrist who listens instead of jumping on the pharmacy alternatives. Avoid caffine, smoking, drugs, and booze etc…

Technical Notes
1. Common cross-reactants: Prescription appetite suppressants such as Phentermine, other
amphetamine-like prescription drugs; Ecstasy-like club drug called MDA (which is a metabolite
of MDMA). In addition, there are several therapeutic agents, such as Benzphetamine, that
metabolize to amphetamine (and methamphetamine) in the body and will produce positive drug
test results. It is also important to note that amphetamine is a metabolite of methamphetamine
and will appear in the urine of a person who has taken methamphetamine.
2. Current US SAMHSA “screening” cutoff is 1,000 ng/mL
3. Current GC/MS (industry standard) confirmation cutoff is 500 ng/mL.
4. Proposed changes in SAMHSA are:
a. To lower the screening cutoff to 500 ng/mL
b. Change target drug from D-amphetamine (historical) to D-methamphetamine
c. Change the GC/MS confirmation to 250 ng/mL
5. Outside the US, amphetamine screening cutoffs may be 300 ng/mL.
6. INNOVACON manufactures amphetamine assays with cutoff levels of 1,000 and 300 ng/mL.
Both assays are FDA cleared and target d-amphetamine as the primary antigen.

Methamphetamine(s)
Methamphetamine is a stimulant drug that is very rarely prescribed, but there is a form
(stereoisomer) of methamphetamine that is used in the Over-the-Counter Vick’s Inhalers. Most
positives are the result of illegal use; the drug is made illegally from pseudoephedrine.
Technical Notes
1. About 4-7% of a methamphetamine dose is broken down to amphetamine by the body
2. Common cross-reactants: metabolites of Ephedrine, Ranitidine (ZANTAC), and MDMA. In
addition, there are several therapeutic agents, such as Benzphetamine, that metabolize to
methamphetamine (and amphetamine) in the body and will produce positive drug test results.
It is also important to note that amphetamine is a metabolite of methamphetamine and will
appear in the urine of a person who has taken methamphetamine.
3. Current US SAMHSA cutoff: grouped together with Amphetamine(s) is 1,000 ng/mL
4. Current GC/MS (SAMHSA) confirmation cutoff is 500 ng/mL; MUST ALSO HAVE AT LEAST
200 ng/mL of amphetamine in the urine to report a viable “methamphetamine” positive
5. Proposed changes in SAMHSA are:
z Change the screening cutoff to 500 ng/mL

z Change the GC/MS confirmation to 250 ng/mL; amphetamine must still be present in
the urine “around cutoff” to report a methamphetamine positive GC/MS result.

ng/mL. The 500 and 1,000 ng/mL assays are FDA cleared; the 300 ng/mL assay is for outside
the US only. All three assays target d-methamphetamine as the primary antigen.

I’ve taken ambien and ambien cr 12.5 and the higher dosage i promise you that you need to go directly to bed or you may do something that you cant remember. I’ve talked to people on the phone and cant remember what i even said. or sometimes ran to the store and don’t even remember that i did it. be very careful.

ive been on it for about a month and a half and have found that im having major mood swings and seem to have some memory loss issues. i also CANNOT sleep without it! i didnt take it tonight and now i cant sleep at all and im extremely moody ands shakey but i want to break the addictive cycle. what do i do?!

Yes, it can be very addictive. If you feel that you have developed a dependency on this drug, I would suggest getting help immediately before things get even worse. I did some research. Maybe this article will help you.

Have you noticed any memory loss during the day–this would not include the memory loss experienced directly after dose was taken. Or have you experienced difficulty concentrating? Please indicate how long you have been on the medication and what dose you take. Thank you for your input

I have taken Ambien on and off for years. I start getting really bad panic attacks during the day after taking them for long periods. I think because I am going through constant withdrawal until I take my next dose. I am having one of these really bad panicy days today. I feel like I am losing my mind! I think this med is evil!
