I’ve been taking Ambien for 10 years and I can no longer fall to sleep without it. I really want to stop. How long will it take me to break this? How many sleepless night before I can sleep without it?

I’ve been on Ambien for nearly as long..20mg! I absolutely cannot get to sleep without taking it. But, every once in a while I take a break from it.

I’ll just share my experiences. I increased my physical activity during the day and totally stopped all caffeine. I did not stop it all at once. The first night I took 1/2 for about 4 days and then a 1/4 for the next few days.

I sleep really poorly for the first week. Getting to sleep, but then waking up every hour. I was still an Insomniac and wound up getting some samples from my doc for Lunesta and Rozeram.

Other alternatives are Benadryl. I had to get off the Ambien because it was really causing bad amnesia. I would do things or talk to people and have no recollection. The worst episode was when (after I took an Ambien) I decided to cook. I was slicing onions and cut off the tip of my finger!!

Talk to your doctor and find out what he suggests. From my own experience, it was NOT an easy time stopping the Ambien.
But, if it is done gradual it is not as severe!

YOU SHOULDN’T CUT DOWN WITHOUT ASKING YOUR DOCTOR.
Just thought I’d get that out of the way. I took ambien for a year and the druggy feeling goes away after time. This is just your body reacting to it. I think if you are nervous about it you should contact your doctor and get his/her’s professional opinion about what you should do.

I took 15 ambien on Monday June 5th, is there anything I can do at home to get it out of my system now? I have been vomitting but not sure what else to do.

That much ambien probably did some serious brain damage. The ambien is out of your system, but you are going to be sick for a long time. You probably don’t need us to tell you what an incredibly stupid thing that was to do. Unfortunately, you are now going to pay the price, and I’m afraid it’s going to be a painful price. I knew one other person that did this, and it took him months to recover. Ambien does damage to the brain that takes a long long time to heal.

Drugs are not candy – many of them are dangerous, as you are just now finding out.

I heard they are taking a lot of them in the daytime and after they get over being sleepy they get a high. So be sure and lock them up if you take them.
I had bad side effects from them…extreme nervousness and extreme hunger. Taking them back to the doc .

I had no idea.

I’ve taken them for nearly a decade but had to recently stop, which has been very painful. I’ve suffered with sleep-walking-eating this whole time. Finally, they stopped working and I just experience amnesia but no drowsiness.

I have to take a drug screen this week for a new job. About 3-4 nights ago I took half of one of my husbands 10mg Ambiens to get some sleep. First time I have ever done that and was before I got the job offer. Do I need to worry that 5 mg taken those 3 days ago will show this week on drug screen ?

Ambien is not a Benzodiazepine. Specifically, It is classified as a non-benzodiazepine hypnotic. As a physician, the rapid drug screen cards do not test for it. A specific test for Ambien is expensive and rarely used. If they specifically test for Ambien it can be detected for about 48 hours after the last dose. No need to worry.

and then is out of them with 7-10 days to go in the month and then struggles to find a way to sleep till they get their next refill, and who else here has no medical insurance and has to pay out of pocket 5 for 30 – 10mg pills, and has to take 2 a night, because one just doesn’t do the job anymore? And who else here was told that Ambien wasn’t addictive and was lied too, and now goes through withdrawls when they don’t have it?

I don’t think Ambien is your problem. I know lots of people (including myself) that take it and are taking it correctly and doing just fine – not addicted at all.

I am 33 Weeks pregnant and my midwife gave me Ambien CR to help me sleep. My back hurts so bad that I have not slept good at all. I am to the point where I get sick at work from being so tired. Has anyone had good results taking this while pregnant?

I took it at the end of pregnancy with my twins. It worked like a charm. I hadn’t slept in three days (not pain, just insomnia), and I needed to do SOMETHING. I took it one time, got the sleep I needed, and it seemed to help straighten out my sleep cycle.

I am still doing research for my book, and I am wondering how many Ambien sleeping pills does it take to put you in a slight coma, or make it so that you can’t wake up for a few days….
