postheadericon First time taking Ambien 5 mg but only got 6 hrs of snooze?

My doctor prescribed to me Ambien 5 mg which is supposed to give me 8-9 hours. I only got 6 hours of sleep and it took at least an hour and a half before I slept. Should I up it up to 10 mg?

Answer:

Be careful talking to Medical Doctors. Too many of them only know what the drug makers tell them about Ambien, and they will not tell you how horribly addictive it is, and how hellish the withdrawals. Their solution to sleep problems is to take drugs, Ironically, taking drugs for sleep tends to just make things worse, but it is all Doctors know to do.

The only thing your Doctor can do is give you a thorough physical and make sure there is nothing physically wrong with you. This is good. Then they give you drugs. This is very bad. Then they tell you to have a sleep study done. This is good. Be aware – those that do sleep studies, and sleep Doctors are really “Sleep Apnea Doctors”. They will watch you sleep and make sure there is nothing wrong physically, but if they don’t find anything, they will not be able to help you other than giving you drugs.

Goggle sleep hygiene. Consider talking to a psychologist about your sleeping issues.

Do your own research – ask around, talk to people, find people who have taken it and can speak to you based on their experiences with Ambien.

Ambien will not give you 8-9 hours of sleep. The first time you take it you might get 6-7 hours, and it rapidly goes downhill from there. Within a week or so, you will only get 3-4 hours of sleep on ambien, and you will not be able to go back to sleep again once it wears off. Ambien takes away from the brain the ability to sleep, and you will very quickly not be able to sleep at all without taking more. After a week or so, you will be hopelessly addicted – yes, it only takes a week or so – and you will get ZERO sleep without taking Ambien. A prescription for Ambien is a one way ticket – once you start, you will go through hell in order to stop.

Your idiot doctor did not do you a favor by giving you ambien. Ambien will not solve your sleep problems, but will only make them worse. Quit the ambien while you can, and find a doctor that can help you address and resolve your sleeping issues, instead of shoving drugs down your throat. Sleeping pills, and ambien in particular, solve NOTHING, they just make things worse.

How do I know this? I took ambien for 4 1/2 months. It was hell, but when I quit the ambien it got worse. It was like opening a door to hell and getting shoved through. It took me a long long time to recover from the damage ambien did to my brain. I have talked to many many people that have taken ambien and had similar experiences. It takes 6-18 months for your brain to heal from the damage ambien does.

Google benzodiazepine withdrawals. That is what ambien does to you.

My sources reference the topix Ambien topic that has several years of history of people discussing what ambien did to them. Go there, read the messages, see for yourself what ambien is going to do to you.

Quit the ambien while you can. Find a non-drug solution to your sleep problems.

postheadericon Why is yahoo answers telling me to take Ambien CR?

Isn’t that extremely nasty stuff? From what I’ve read, one would be better off not sleeping.

Answer:

I couldn’t agree with you more. There is too much evidence of amnesia-type problems to warrant my ever taking this Rx med. For example, a doctor friend of mine said he has a colleague who went to a medical conference after taking just a few doses of Ambien CR. After a day or so there another colleague came up to him and congratulated him on his presentation of a very complex paper….and this guy had absolutely no recollection at all of having done that. Enough data for me, I’ll tell you! (True story, too…)

postheadericon Does the Ambien CR ad cause your computer problems?

Whenever that ad is shown here on Answers, many times I have to restart my computer because it makes my screen freeze up.

Answer:

I must have missed that one. My computer did have trouble rebooting when I updated with a service 3 pack that was recommended by MICROSOFT….I had to do a system restore and remove the darn thing.

postheadericon Can someone tell me what the difference is between Lunesta and Ambien?

I was on Lunesta for a short period and it worked great for my sleeping problems but my doctor today put me on Ambien CR. I was just wondering if there were any major differences. I know that Lunesta put me at ease before bed, relaxed me enough to fall asleep. I am worried the Ambien will be a waste.
Anyone have any insight? Thanks!!

Answer:

Lunesta is not controlled release like Ambien CR.Both have the same side effects, both are controlled substances and have a chance, if woken in the middle of the night, you may be very disoriented.Lunesta releases all it’s properties at once, Ambien CR has one medication to put you asleep fast and another to keep you asleep. That’s why 8 hours sleep is required. Taking to much of either will eventually cause a dependancy on them so only use if absoultely necessary. But that;s the only difference really.Hope that helps.

postheadericon How do you get prescribed Lunesta or Ambien?

I know that they are sleeping pills but what would i tell the doctor for him to prescribe them for me?

Answer:

they might do a sleep test to see how you really sleep at night. or you might just be able to tell your doctor your problems and let him see if you need some sleeping pills.

postheadericon Will Tylenol PM make me sleep straight through the night like Ambien?

I have problems sleeping adn I have a new baby. I use to take Ambien. When I take ambien nothing wakes me up. I dont take it now beacause I have a new born. I need something to help me fall asleep and help my back pain. If I take Tylenol Pm will I be able to wake when my baby cries?

Answer:

You may want to ask your doctor about this, as Tylenol PM is really meant for pain relief in addition to helping one sleep. Taking too much Tylenol is harmful to the organs (namely the liver). People have stated that it’s safer than Ambien… well… not really.

I used to take Ambien as well, I remember that it helped me sleep sooooo very well. Then I had to stop taking it for the same reason as you.

Talk to your doctor for the best course to take with your sleeping.

postheadericon What are the chances of surviving if you take 60 or more Ambien sleeping pills?

I didn’t and don’t plan to, but I know somebody who recently did. She is still in the hospital on the ventilator.

Answer:

By a miracle your friend did survive ,but may have problems such as liver or brain problems which can be permanent. I hope that everything is okay and they get the help that they need.
