postheadericon For people who have taken Ambien for longer than a year?

Have you noticed any memory loss during the day–this would not include the memory loss experienced directly after dose was taken. Or have you experienced difficulty concentrating? Please indicate how long you have been on the medication and what dose you take. Thank you for your input

Answer:

I have taken Ambien on and off for years. I start getting really bad panic attacks during the day after taking them for long periods. I think because I am going through constant withdrawal until I take my next dose. I am having one of these really bad panicy days today. I feel like I am losing my mind! I think this med is evil!

postheadericon Anyone who had problems with blackouts from Ambien have the same problem with Ambien CR?

My doctor says the time release action of CR is supposed to help with that.

Answer:

I was so happy to get the CR so I wouldn’t have these awful times when I did stuff and didn’t remember but the CR didn’t help me. I could fall asleep on it but then I’d wake up in the middle of the night and not be able to go back to sleep. Those blackouts are really freaky! I tend to get up and eat during these times and it’s just too weird! Hope the CR works for you!

postheadericon What happens if you don’t get 7-8 hours of sleep on Ambien?

I have been taking it for a long period of time and i am starting to be immune to its effects. It takes me a long time to fall asleep. I just realized what time it is and I have to get up at 7:30. That wont be enough sleep. But, since it isnt helping me to fall asleep, will it really make a difference in keeping me asleep?

Answer:

It sounds like you’ve built up a tolerance. You need to tell your Dr and get your meds changed.

As far as whether or not it will keep you asleep for 7-8 hours even though it takes you a long time to fall asleep – I’m no expert but I wouldn’t think so. I’d guess that it wears off after the 7-8 hours. You might be groggy in the morning though.

postheadericon Im 17 weeks & I have insomnia , is Ambien ok?

Im 17 weeks and sleeping is really really difficult, I had this problem before i was pregnant too. Somebody told me you can take ambien during your pregnancy? I researched a little bit and it didn’t convince me it was completely safe. Has anyone taken it during their pregnancy’s?? What other safe remedies did u use?

Answer:

i was taking ambien before my last pregnancy and when i became pregnant the doctor had me stop. i’m not convinced it’s safe either. i would try a different approach and if youre using caffeine, try stopping that, try chamomile tea before bed, warm bath. i understand though, it sucks, especially when you know that when that baby comes you wont be able to sleep either so it would be nice to get as much as you can now. good luck :)

and i dont think jay z was pregnant when he wrote that song.

postheadericon Do you know of any negative effects of Zolpidem/Ambien overdose?

What if you overdose on Zolpidem/Ambien(sedative/sleeping pill)?
Is there any long-term health risks?

Answer:

No one really knows if there are long term health risks. You can’t exactly study this in people, and overdosing animals doesn’t always tell us what happens when people OD.

However – I have known people that overdosed on ambien, and it took them a long time to recover. They suffered symptoms similar to withdrawals from extended usage.

Doctors and scientists don’t really know what ambien does to the brain and body with regular usage, let alone over dosing. We do know, however, that long term use causes a lot of unpleasant side effects, and that withdrawals from “normal” usage can be severe and very long lasting. I would imagine that overdosing would make the side effects and withdrawals worse.

And there is always that possible that all of us that take ambien are going to die of some terrible cancer in 10 or 20 years. Weird stuff like this happens.

postheadericon if I take a half of a 10 milligram ambien one night and take the other half a different night what is the po?

night what is the possibility of me getting a metered dose if the pill is not scored?

Answer:

There are different generic brands of Ambien some are scored but most of the newer brands are not. Some are really small some are a little bigger allowing you to cut them in half if you have 10 milligram. I haven’t heard of any that come in 5 milligram dosage which kinda sucks cause I only take a quarter to a half myself. I would get a pill cutter from the pharmacy which makes it a lot easier to cut them without it crumbling or having one big half and one small. That’s probably your only bet. Good luck!

postheadericon Anyone with amnesia after taking Ambien?

I took Ambien for the first time last night. I remember taking it around 10:15pm and then getting into bed to watch Late Night with Conan that I had taped the night before. When I woke up this morning, my bra was on the floor and my husband said that we had sex last night, yet I don’t remember a thing. It really scares me that I don’t remember anything. Has anyone else out there had a similar experience? And do you ever get that memory back?

Answer:

I took Ambien nearly every night for about a year due to my chronic insomnia, and I had dozens of incidents of amnesia. No, the memories really never came back for most of them. Sometimes, when I think really hard I could remember bits like a from a vague dream, but sometimes I recalled nothing.

In addition to amnesia I also did and said things I wouldn’t normally. I apparently shopped online for things I didn’t even want. I wouldn’t know what I had done until packages showed up on the doorstep. I can to return them, of course.

Also, I made phone calls and sent text messages. It was scary to wake up in the morning and discover that I had been on the phone between 11 and 11:45 when I thought I fell asleep at 10:30. Hearing about what I said in the conversations was even more painful. I apparently told my boyfriend that I had been unfaithful to him, but the thing is I wasn’t ever unfaithful to him. To this day, I think he still has doubts about me which is a bummer.

I found that I could avoid all of the bad effects of Ambien such as amnesia, etc., provided that I got into bed with the lights out (and no computer or phone near by) within 15 minutes of taking the pill. It sounds simple enough but for me, it worked every time. No amnesia, because there was nothing to remember.

Personally, I think it’s a very effective medication that helps me sleep and doesn’t make me feel groggy in the morning. If I have insomnia again, I’ll take Ambien again. I only ran into trouble when I tried to milk a few extra minutes out of my day by staying awake even after I’d taken the Ambien.

Having sex with your husband sounds like a positive outcome –even if you can’t remember it, but be careful. Some people actually drive in their Ambien sleep and lots of people end up gaining mystery weight because they eat massive amounts of food when they are Ambien asleep.

There are two Ambien formulas: regular and CR. If you have problems with one, consider taking the other. Ask your doctor for more info.

postheadericon Ambien How do I stop?

I’ve been taking Ambien for 10 years and I can no longer fall to sleep without it. I really want to stop. How long will it take me to break this? How many sleepless night before I can sleep without it?

Answer:

I’ve been on Ambien for nearly as long..20mg! I absolutely cannot get to sleep without taking it. But, every once in a while I take a break from it.

I’ll just share my experiences. I increased my physical activity during the day and totally stopped all caffeine. I did not stop it all at once. The first night I took 1/2 for about 4 days and then a 1/4 for the next few days.

I sleep really poorly for the first week. Getting to sleep, but then waking up every hour. I was still an Insomniac and wound up getting some samples from my doc for Lunesta and Rozeram.

Other alternatives are Benadryl. I had to get off the Ambien because it was really causing bad amnesia. I would do things or talk to people and have no recollection. The worst episode was when (after I took an Ambien) I decided to cook. I was slicing onions and cut off the tip of my finger!!

Talk to your doctor and find out what he suggests. From my own experience, it was NOT an easy time stopping the Ambien.
But, if it is done gradual it is not as severe!

Good Luck
