postheadericon Has Anyone had a bad experience with Ambien?

When I take it, it is hit or miss. Some nights I’ll sleep like a baby, some other nights I have hallucinations and my husband tells me I do not act like myself at all. The scary part, as if it was necessary, I don’t remember a thing about the night before, with the exception of a little thing here or there which I normally associate it a dream.
Thank you for your time

Answer:

Are you taking Ambien or Ambien CR? I never had any problems with the Ambien CR but with the regular Ambien I had conversations I was never aware of. I slept well with both types. There are certainly other sleep aids you might want to discuss with your doctor if your side-effects are that abnormal. Take care!

postheadericon does anyone know of a link between ambien cr and weight gain?

i have been on ambien cr for about a month. over that time i have gained weight. i exercise regularly so the only thing i can think of is that its a side effect of the ambien cr…anyone else experience this problem???

Answer:

I think that might be the drug where people will wake up and eat in their sleep. I heard that on the news…??

postheadericon Anyone with amnesia after taking Ambien?

I took Ambien for the first time last night. I remember taking it around 10:15pm and then getting into bed to watch Late Night with Conan that I had taped the night before. When I woke up this morning, my bra was on the floor and my husband said that we had sex last night, yet I don’t remember a thing. It really scares me that I don’t remember anything. Has anyone else out there had a similar experience? And do you ever get that memory back?

Answer:

I took Ambien nearly every night for about a year due to my chronic insomnia, and I had dozens of incidents of amnesia. No, the memories really never came back for most of them. Sometimes, when I think really hard I could remember bits like a from a vague dream, but sometimes I recalled nothing.

In addition to amnesia I also did and said things I wouldn’t normally. I apparently shopped online for things I didn’t even want. I wouldn’t know what I had done until packages showed up on the doorstep. I can to return them, of course.

Also, I made phone calls and sent text messages. It was scary to wake up in the morning and discover that I had been on the phone between 11 and 11:45 when I thought I fell asleep at 10:30. Hearing about what I said in the conversations was even more painful. I apparently told my boyfriend that I had been unfaithful to him, but the thing is I wasn’t ever unfaithful to him. To this day, I think he still has doubts about me which is a bummer.

I found that I could avoid all of the bad effects of Ambien such as amnesia, etc., provided that I got into bed with the lights out (and no computer or phone near by) within 15 minutes of taking the pill. It sounds simple enough but for me, it worked every time. No amnesia, because there was nothing to remember.

Personally, I think it’s a very effective medication that helps me sleep and doesn’t make me feel groggy in the morning. If I have insomnia again, I’ll take Ambien again. I only ran into trouble when I tried to milk a few extra minutes out of my day by staying awake even after I’d taken the Ambien.

Having sex with your husband sounds like a positive outcome –even if you can’t remember it, but be careful. Some people actually drive in their Ambien sleep and lots of people end up gaining mystery weight because they eat massive amounts of food when they are Ambien asleep.

There are two Ambien formulas: regular and CR. If you have problems with one, consider taking the other. Ask your doctor for more info.

postheadericon is it really hard to get off of ambien?

I am so tired of being tired. I have really bad insomnia, and have been on ambien for 5 years, along with klonopin fo ranxiety and lamictal for bipolar. The first thing is I want to know how to get off of the sleep medication/ EVery morning I wake up feelin gdrugged and exhausted. I take 5-10mgs a night.

Answer:

You should probably see a doctor. I know with certain medications (not sure which ones), once your body is used to receiving them, you can’t just stop taking them cold turkey. It sends your body into shock or something. So check with your doctor, a clinic, or even a pharmacist.

postheadericon I’ve been having trouble falling and staying asleep, I’ve tried benadryl zanax seroquel and ambien and ativan?

I don’t know what to do, any suggestions?

Answer:

Well,honestly?
Your doing the same exact thing I did years ago….totally dependent on sleep aids! Your now switching from 1 sleep aid to the next, and when 1 sleep aid stops working…you then switch to another. It’s a vicious cycle. And,what’s likely happened now? You’ve ran out of options…as there are only so many sleep aids on the market, and you’ve likely take most if not all of them already.
I was in the same boat not a couple years back, and I found myself desperate for even a couple hours sleep.I would double, and often times even triple my doses of sleep aids, and take an ungodly amount of over the counter sleep aids. But,it got to the extent that nothing helped me to sleep, and no amount of dosage helped either.
So,I basically helped myself….I didn’t seek the help from my doctor, which I do not encourage anyone to do that! It’s always best to seek the medical advice from ones doctor!! Always best!
You need to speak with your doctor about possibly tapering off…slowly at first, and once you’ve successfully tapered off…..you can speak with your doctor about the possibility of only taking 1 mild sleep aid.But,again….this is for your doctor to determine, and it really depends on the severity of your condition.I was able to slowly taper down and am currently taking a very mild sleep aid.I never got back into the habit of increasing my dose,or switching to any other sleep aid other than the 1 I’m currently taking. That can be a big problem….staying on only 1 sleep aid,and not getting back into the old habit of constantly switching or increasing your dosage.
So,again…I suggest you speak with your prescribing doctor about the possibility of tapering you off all these sleep aids.Things are going to get much worse before they get any better IF you don’t do something about your situation soon. It’s hard, but not impossible by any means. You could very well have an accidental over dose, and never wake up.
Hope this helps.
Take care.

postheadericon Why is my memory gone? Could ambien be the cause?

I can’t remember a thing anymore. I blackout every night and have no memory whatsoever of the night before kind of like being drunk.

Answer:

It could be, I would call your doctor.. My brother is in prison because of Ambien.. They STARTED him on 600mgs he didn’t know what he was doing or remember what he did.. He did some stuff while on the meds, within the first couple of weeks getting on them && the jury didn’t believe it was because of meds so now he’s sitting in there 80+ years..
