why can;t you have a beer or glass or wine when taking Ambien?
Having a beer or a glass or wine before taking my Ambien on the way to bed seems to help me sleep better. Just checked out of Mayo Clinic for sleep disorder, but did not think to ask the question.. Does it make the Ambie work less? I am suffer from insomia of which i was told there was no cure. Can anyone out there help me. I’ve been up since 1 a.m., but usually sleep tl 2—going to bed at 9 (central time). I’ve been so depressed since he told me there was no cure for it and that I’d be on meds the rest of my life. The trouble is, I’ve gone through the gambit of meds for the last sixteen years when I was first diagnosed with this.. Anyone out there that can give me some help, I would greatly appreaciate it.

Ambien is a seditive formulated to assist in inducing sleep. Alcohol intensifies this mechanism of action which can result in extreme sedation, inability to concentrate/blackouts, decreased respirations, lucid dreams(just to name a few). Not to mention, the two combined can cause “sluggishness” for a couple of days.

I have had problems sleeping for years!!!! But any Doctor I have been to only prescribes 15-20 doses. What can I say to him or her to have a long term prescription?? I have tried Ambien and Lunesta and they both work perfectly!!!! please help me.

I’ve taken ambien and ambien cr 12.5 and the higher dosage i promise you that you need to go directly to bed or you may do something that you cant remember. I’ve talked to people on the phone and cant remember what i even said. or sometimes ran to the store and don’t even remember that i did it. be very careful.
I just took 3 ambien cr pills…When will they start to work so I can fall asleep?
One does not work for me and usually two works. I hav been off of these for quite some time so I recently just got a new prescription and this is my second day and I have just taken a 3rd pill when I’m only supposed to take one…When will I feel sleepy. I don’t want to have to take anymore.

They should start working in about 1/2 hour. Ambien is a short-acting sleeping pills which is why they make the repeat-action “CR” form.
Also Ambien can cause in some people, insomnia the following night. Best to take em once in awhile. Not for every night use.

Hi, I have had real bad insomnia for the past couple weeks.My doctor put me on ambien cr about a month ago, and that doesen’t seem to work any more. I keep waking up alot during the night. Are there any other pills that might work better. I’ve also tried kava, melatonin, and valerian root. And they didn’t work. Does anyone know of any pills that will work better. Any help would be appreciated.

Try just laying down for 30 minutes. See what happens.
I take 2.5, 10 mg ambien everynight is it ok for me to take three?
I take ambien everynight and I take two wait about an hour then I take a half but I’m still not tired will it be ok to take another half just for tonight.

No, it’s never OK to take more medication than prescribed. But in your particular case, you would be wise to address the underlying problem. Your problem is not with Ambien; it’s with insomnia. You should be looking at WHY you have insomnia and try to correct it. You can do that by a number of things: get some regular exercise every day. Don’t eat heavy meals in the evening. Avoid stimulants such as coffee, tea or cola drinks. Don’t watch action movies or horror shows before you go to bed, which stimulates your adrenalin. Set aside some time in the evening to relax and let your mind wind down from the day. Set aside some regular time to read a good book. Set a regular time each night to go to bed, and don’t vary it. Make sure the room is dark, and don’t leave lights burning at night. Don’t lie in bed and attempt to solve the world’s problems or to balance your checkbook after you’ve gone to bed. Think soothing, tranquil thoughts. Some people benefit from a slight amount of noise to block ambient environmental noise. They put their computer in their bedroom so the whining of the fan lulls them to sleep. Get up at a regular time in the morning, and don’t “sleep in.” If you do all these things, you should get into a routine of falling asleep easily at night. Only after you’ve tried ALL these things should you seek pharmaceutical solutions to your insomnia.
